About Mindfulness

Mindfulness is about coming into contact with life in as it is unfolding, with kindness, openness, and a non-judgemental mind. It is about participating in our lives fully and intimately; a befriending and inhabiting of this moment for it’s own sake, without needing anything special to happen.

The power of the practice is in developing a more wise, kind and accepting relationship with the difficulties we face.

When we’re struggling and arguing with life, trying to accomplish, control and avoid things in order to feel ‘better’, our attention becomes very narrow, tight and our body contracts. By becoming more conscious we may slowly begin to see how these habitual reactions are complicating things further and preventing us from living a more fulfilling life.

Through practice, we may begin to realise that we have a choice in how we approach ourselves; with harshness or with kindness. With gentle perseverance we can learn to befriend ourselves with kindness and acceptance, the parts that feel ‘good’ and the parts that don’t; bringing an inner warmth and kindness to it all, including any resistance to be present!

It is an ongoing invitation to relax, over and over again, into what is already happening.

As we learn to stay more connected to ourselves in the present moment whole new possibilities can be free to open up. From this connected, open place we can make wiser, clearer choices that are more aligned with our deepest values. We are more able to access our inner resources and can begin to experience the richness, depth and the miracle of simply being alive.
